Step 1. Cut a hole in a box...

I'm so glad to FINALLY be done this stupid thing. Pixel art takes long enough without having to explain it -.-

(comments very appreciated for this)

hehe <3

I had a hard time believing anybody would actually read through all this. It's sooo long and boring. So thanks for letting me know you liked it, it means a lot to me =3
:iconrainejoybringer:
Nobody read... you're kidding! XD It's great so I'm sure lots of people will find it helpful.

I'm glad you made this too! This is helpful for just learning how to shade in general, the idea of using blue rather than true greys to shade black really helps. (It makes sense! Light tends to reflect mostly in a blue way, unless you're near a sunset or in a house with florescent lighting.) And it's not boring at all, you've written in a very conversational style that's quite fun to read. It probably seems long and boring to you because you took several hours to make it while it only took us about five minutes to read it. XD (I have the same issue with essays, I ALWAYS think they're bad right after I finished.) But yeah, I really appreciate this, it's great. X3

Oh my sweet custard pies, this is an amazing tutorial. I c wat u did thar!
This helps me quite a bit since I more or less flounder through pixelwork, so I (and probably hundreds of other people will) very much appreciate you taking the time to make this tutorial. XD

... Especially the part about shading black. Yeah. I suck because I usually shade it in pure greys, so. So.
... Yeah...

Oh and you are also extra amazing because you don't use the bubbles for your sketching. Envy. :(

AWESOME TUTORIAL.

Hundreds of people? Bah. I'll be lucky if I get 15 people to read this ugly thing =P

The thing about shading black I learned a long time ago. I don't remember how, maybe it was in another tutorial or someone was giving CC and said that. But it sounded pretty legit so I stuck with it. It also applies to white... I think you should shade white with blues or creams? Uggh, color theory makes my head hurt. I wish I could take a class so I could understand it.
:iconkattuccino:
BAH. I don't know, it's pretty ugly, and I don't know how helpful it actually is. Like, some things are just tough to explain, besides the basics of what not to do.

Really great tutorial! And yeah it's long but it's totally worth the read.
